Styrenated phenol (Antioxidant SP), also known as anti-aging agent SP, is a light yellow to amber viscous liquid. This substance is insoluble in water and gasoline, but soluble in organic solvents such as benzene, toluene, and acetone. It has excellent protective effects against thermal oxidation, weathering, and light flexing aging. In the rubber industry, it is used as a stabilizer and anti-aging agent for natural rubber and various synthetic rubbers; in the plastic industry, it serves as an antioxidant for polyolefins and polyoxymethylene.
To be more specific, styrylated phenols consist of monostyrylated phenol, distyrylated phenol and tristyrylated phenol. Due to the different numbers of styryl groups in each type of styrylated phenol, their molecular structures and properties vary, and their application scopes are not exactly the same:
Table: Application of Styrenated Phenol
Product Name
Use
Monostyrenated phenol
Industrial epoxy coatings, marine coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, paints, epoxy curing agent additives, paper-cut decorative coatings, primers, sealants, epoxy adhesives, intermediates used for the production of surfactants.
Diphenylated phenol
Used as an antioxidant in rubber composites.
Trisubstituted phenol
An intermediate used for the production of surfactants.
The appearance also differs. Both monostyrene phenol and disstyrene phenol are colorless, pale yellow, viscous and transparent liquids; while tristyrene phenol is a yellow, viscous liquid.
In addition, during the use of styrene-forming phenol, it is necessary to pay attention to key points such as safety protection, storage conditions, and process compatibility, in order to ensure that the performance advantages of styrene-forming phenol can be fully exerted, and it can better shine and contribute in the field of new materials.
